Do you know that what you eat has a great impact on your general well being?
One day after I had my little one, my big Sister in the Lord whom I love and learn from came visiting and asked me if I was still on my prenatal vitamins. And that was how the discussion on healthy eating began. She encouraged me to see the need to eat healthy and gave great tips. On getting back to base, I determined in my heart that since I was exclusively breastfeeding, I would endeavor to eat clean and healthy since my little one gets to eat what I eat.
If you ask every mother, her desire is that her family and especially her children eat healthy and are not glued to the junks. You know what? We can catch them young and very early in life. You may ask me how? Let them begin to enjoy it from the breastmilk to when they start solids and every other meal.
Eating healthy and clean doesn’t have to be expensive and stressful. Make use of what you have around and be flexible enough to try new healthy foods. Always endeavor to transform the leftovers to great sumptuous meals too.
Like it’s said, “you are what you eat”.
So welcome to this page – “The Powerhouse” – as I will be sharing how I prepare my meals. How I save on preparation time and how I save perishable ingredients till when I need them. I will be sharing recipes I learned and those I create. As much as I know how to prepare so many meals, I am always open to try different methods of preparing them.
If you have any method of preparing a particular dish, feel free to leave your comments because someone is learning from it. I am learning as well. Also, if you have a dish you would like me to try, please leave your comments as well.
On this note, I happily invite you to join me on this journey and I promise you with God on our side, we will be the best He wants us to be.
“Loved ones, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul.” 3 John 1:2 (TLV)
Recently, I started something which has gone on for a while now. It was in relation to something I got without even asking or rather i couldn’t remember when i asked for it. I have this habit of praying for the next month before i even start it. I also claim the promises of God and have it written down and in my heart for the rest of the month. I am always thankful for the blessings of that month before they even start flowing in.
I have come to a point in my life as a Christian that I clearly understand and acknowledge the truth that “All that I am, All that I have, All I will be and All I will have” can only be traced to my maker. This is the reason why i developed this habit. It didn’t come just naturally, I made a conscious decision to walk this path.
The very first word I ever got from God was years back and its in Habakkuk 2:1-4 (ERV) : I will stand like a guard and watch. I will wait to see what the Lord will say to me. I will wait and learn how he answers my questions. The Lord answered me, “Write down what I show you. Write it clearly on a sign so that the message will be easy to read. This message is about a special time in the future. This message is about the end, and it will come true. Just be patient and wait for it. That time will come; it will not be late. This message cannot help those who refuse to listen to it, but those who are good will live because they believe it.
Over the years, I’ve come to see the depths (I am still searching) of what these verses mean. I have read them from different translations and hence understood it better. Other words have come and i have never ceased to write them down-mainly in my heart and head. The way God works is way way past our understanding. I have seen God work even when I haven’t asked him in prayer for it. I have seen him work seconds after i have asked him in prayer for it. And even years after.
I invite as many who are willing and see the need to pray themselves and their family into the new month to. It doesn’t have to be long, it just have to be direct. No beating about the bush. Just like the Children of Israel from the taken scripture. They never took a step without the cloud moving. Today we have the opportunity through Jesus to be led by God. Why not step into September with him.
Find a guide below to help you.

Decree over yourself and family for the new month.
Hello everyone. Welcome to my August Workout routine post.
Okay in July, it was all about Jump ropes and smoothies. Well Smoothies became a part of me a day after my wedding – thanks to my every supporting boyfriend. My legs and arms told me I worked them because I felt it. I took one week after to rest and then resumed on my August routine. The one week of rest was used to plan how my workout for this month would look like. I watched some dance videos and downloaded the Nike+Training App for great workouts.
Due to the fact that these are termed as High Intensity, I started off with 15mins and worked it up to 30mins. But oh my, the sweats are serious. I will share pictures of some of the routines I do and how many reps and all that.
For these workouts, you can do them in the comfort of your home, in the park or anywhere you feel comfortable. For me, I have a little one and therefore I do these after work in the evening at home. No equipments are needed but if you have them why not. A yoga mat or a very large towel is needed for times when you have to lay down. A comfortable outfit and if you want a pair of running sneakers or your favorite workout shoes.
I begin by warming up with a side by side dance step and into a body walk for about 2 mins in intervals of 30seconds. After that I proceed to the workouts and then cool down for another 2 mins and that’s all. Below are some of the workouts I do to amount to 30mins. You break into sweats and breathe heavily soon because you feel them almost immediately.
PLANK
Doing this I pull in my belly button toward my spine and hold the high plank for 20secs then drop my knee and hold that for 10secs. I go down to the low plank and hold for 20 secs and drop my knee and hold that for 10 secs.
CLIMBERS MOUNTAIN
With this, I take the high plank position and go with the motion of one who is climbing a mountain. Just as the name says. This goes for 30 secs
SQUATS
Oh my, this one is hard when you start feeling it working those thighs. It’s just as the picture. I do this for 40secs
LUNGES
Be it reverse lunges or walking lunges or either sides, I do this for 20secs, rest 20 secs and again 20secs.
BICYCLE CRUNCHES
These and more I do weekdays and the weekends are for dancing.
DANCE
Just like I posted on My Instagram Page yesterday, I have a playlist I named “WORKOUT”. There I have songs I love and can dance to which will play for 30mins. The end of the songs means I have danced for 30mins. Different styles throwing my hands and legs up and down, left and right and doing a full body workout during the dance. During the slow songs it’s time for me to work my arm and do some squats and planks. Whichever you prefer is fine.
Okay for those who have little ones who may want to be carried, I am in the same shoes as you. All I do is carry Bambie and we do the workouts together. Your little ones will serve as weights which also is good as it works your arms altogether. Funny enough they will enjoy it. Do well to use one hand to support their head.
And my smoothie game is very much on and going no where. Just substituting milk with water. Introduced a teaspoon of lemon.

DISCLAIMER: This article is my personal journey unto a healthy and fit lifestyle while laying a good example for my kids and others. Please listen to your body and don’t stress. It’s all about making it a habit and a lifestyle not about competition. As you take a day at a time, take one exercise as you can. For new moms like me, get a go ahead from your doctor and start from 3 mins and gradually grow. Your health over body goals.
As I earlier stated in the first part of this series, I would be sharing personal tips on this matter…hehehe…
In the first few days following the birth of Bambie, I started a daily breakfast routine as is almost common with every nursing mother. I started off with a bowl of pap (made from yellow corn) with Nestle Milo. Did it help? “Oh yes it did” but I soon became so tired of it but I kept taking it till I got fed up. But I finished the batch I had because it was gifted to me out of Love from someone who didn’t know me but heard “the pap is for a nursing mother” (God bless her beyond her expectation, Amen).
Well i found out from my experience that within the early weeks of baby’s arrival, you produce so much milk such that one is engorged almost all the time. (I’ll tell you how to handle that as we go on) As baby feeds, the production manager becomes aware of how much is consumed. With this information, the workers are alerted on how much quantity to produce and gradually the supply begins to reduce to meet up with the demand as baby grows and maybe start solids thereby feeding less and less from the breast.

Okay back to my story, I loved oats so i researched and found out it was a very good milk booster so i switched to my delicious oatmeal. I decided to go on plant milk to avoid any form of reaction from my baby should i start using animal milk. I went with the unsweetened almond milk and i continued with it. Every morning after drinking water, my breakfast was always “Fresh Oatmeal Garden” (the name i gave the delicacy), then i went on to eat my regular lunch and had cereal or “Kunun Tsamiya (Tamarind – Millet Gruel)”
as dinner. These helped to keep my milk supply up as i returned back to work. (3-square meal has always been a challenge for me right from time)
How many of you have heard that you have to eat and eat and eat because you are breastfeeding?
“Me too. In fact food became like a threat for me but i decided to eat as i have always eaten but healthy meals at all times. Baby gets what you eat, so eat right please”.
You may ask, how did you do when you returned back to work?
“Well prior to returning to work, I got me a double electric breast pump as well as a manual one. When i’m home, i express from both at the same time and store in storage bags and keep in the Freezer. (I’ll mention the life span below, so make sure to read to the end) My Manual pump was always in my bag in case i need to express while i’m away from home. I used it at work and brought the expressed milk home to be stored in the freezer. This I did continuously and diligently.”
Was it easy?
“No it wasn’t. I had to set alarms to tell me when to pump because I was determined to give Bambie the best start to a healthy life.”
Fast forward to when Bambie was 5 months and i was totally fed up with the breakfast routine. As much as i loved oatmeal, i got tired of eating it. I got tired! But my milk supply began to reduce as Bambie was demanding so much more. I remember crying that morning while preparing for work and telling my boyfriend (in case you are new to my blog, i’m talking about my husband as that is how i prefer to call him. The latter makes us feel old. hehehehe…) how I don’t think I would be able to achieve the 6-months exclusive feeding. He encouraged me to continue the oatmeal and also express more even when i’m not engorged. I said Okay but i was already contemplating supplementing with formula.
Then while i was alone, i heard within my spirit, “Have you prayed about it as much as you’ve talked about it.” Hmmmm… I quickly closed my eyes and said “I am so sorry Lord for thinking I was doing this all by myself. Forgive me for not trusting you completely to carry us through till the end. Please help me, I need this milk supply to meet up with Bambie’s demand and even surpass it. I trust you to help us and I believe you will because its your desire for us. I hand it over to you.”
And i prepared and left for work. I expressed at work and while I was expressing, a sweet thought came visiting: “google lactating smoothies after all you are a smoothie person.” Oh I never part with my smoothie. You needed to see my smile. As i finished and returned from the factory (what i call where i go to express at work) to my desk, i did as stated and so many came up (the internet is filled with all sorts, do your research please) so i saved as many pages i could for later research and continued the rest when i got home. By the next morning i knew exactly what i wanted to do.
Before, my story gets too boring, I might have to extend these series to a part three. Please do well to watch out for it. You can subscribe to my blog and get alerted when it’s published or you follow me on Facebook. Until then, make today a “Thankful Throwback Thursday”

While we were preparing to settle down as a couple, we went shopping for some kitchen essentials. I remember us seeing something I deeply wanted but couldn’t afford at the time. I buckled under and walked away, but the person I went shopping with called me back saying, “Is this not what you wanted?” I said, “yes but its expensive. Let us go for some thing less expensive.” I ensured that as at the time we left that store, I wasn’t convinced to buy it at the price it was sold for. At a time when I wasn’t available to shop, my shopping buddy went there and bought it. When I saw, I was so speechless and trust me -the Ijebu in me came out – instead of saying thank you and moving on, I started saying, “you shouldn’t have bought it, I told you not to bother.” My buddy just walked away and later called me and told me, “What is good and will last costs a fortune. Spend to get it and you will save yourself several spending on that that wont last.” All I could say was hmm-mm but that is a knowledge I am for ever grateful for.
This person changed my view of things and especially anything that has to do with the physical power house of my home – the Kitchen. Lately, I started following a very talented lady on instagram and she has made me love my kitchen even more. As much as she loves to cook, she is a pro in this kitchen investments. (I would leave a link to her website below)
When it comes to investing in this department, I would advise you to do research, and get the best. Sometimes finance can be a challenge but why not save up for it. Something I do is when I love something is I try not to get swayed by the fact that everybody is getting it, I just admire it and research for the best available and save up to get it.
The kitchen essentials includes:
Cooker
Pots
Pressure cooker (optional)
Blender
Knives
Microwave (optional)
Food Processor (optional)
Stand/Hand mixer (optional)
Cooking Utensils
Spice Mortar & Pestle (optional)
Freezer
Refrigerator
Dish washer (optional)
Electric Kettle (optional)
Oven (optional)
Grill (optional)
Sandwich maker (optional)
and a host of other things I can’t remember now.
My Recommendations:
As much as i am weary of making recommendations, I will share my honest opinion as regards this topic.
For cookers, a great investment in one that has more features such as the oven, grill is a great one. Though getting one that has these features are a little pricey, they are way cheaper than buying the individual items at a cheaper rate and having them not being able to stand the use they are put to.
For Pots; I have had pots which I had to throw away. What about the blender? How many blenders have i packed up due to one disappointment or the other? It pained me and it didn’t at the same time but I learned from the whole experience and it put me on the journey of searching for the best. One fact is, “as much as I am modern, I want to be old school in the sense that I should be able to have kitchen essentials that my grandchildren would meet and eat great healthy meals from.”
Freezers and refrigerators are another one. I’ll recommend that if you have the space, get a big freezer because as your family grows, there will be great need for freezer storage and then you would have saved yourself buying another one. Same applies to fridges.

For cooking utensils, I am a fan of either the wood or non stick ones because they keep my pots sane and i dislike the sound that comes from using the steel spoon in pots. Whatever your preference, get a very good and durable one that will save you several spending.
In conclusion, get a durable and many years guaranteed kitchen essentials. It produces a confident kitchen.
Hello Mr Husband or Mr Fiance, don’t just say okay and go sharing to Mrs Wife or Miss Fiancee, invest as well so you don’t have to shout when She comes with request for a new essential every now and then.

Hello dear reader, if this is your first time on my blog, I welcome you with the absolute love of God. As you read, I pray and hope you get blessed. And when you do, do well to be a blessing by sharing till God blesses another.
As much as I can remember of my growing up days, what I am about to write is one that has greatly influenced my life and taken me to where I am today (I am not at my final bus stop yet. Still a work in progress by my maker). Funny enough, it still is influencing my life and taking me places.
For those who know me well enough to tell stories about me can tell you how blunt I am or rather used to be. I always never saw the reason to mince my words or even chew them (I don’t mince words though but i have learned to chew them) so far what I am about to say is the truth. When a negative word is dished out to me, I do not waste any time in refusing the dish. I don’t even mistakenly accept it. I love me too much to accept any negativity or allow it rub off on me. There are times when situations would almost push me over the fence but I will make sure to sit still on that fence and climb gently down by rejecting such thoughts and covering my heart with the blood of Jesus, thereby, locking out any negative thoughts passing by and may want to drop in for a drink or two.
Forgive my long story, but I needed to help you understand how important this is. Our words are like spears. They pierce real deep and some words even go as far as piercing the heart of God. When you say something, even without thinking; even if no one is there , three people heard you – God, the devil and your subconscious. I’ve come to an understanding that the evil ones work with information and most a times we are the one who divulges this information. For God, before you thought it, He knew it and your subconscious, as you are thinking, it gets informed. I have learned to chew my words and if they are so hard to swallow, then they don’t need to be served to another not even God or me.

Many bad and negative things that happen to a lot of people were brought upon them by themselves 90% of the time. You hear them utter words like these: “I think I will not make it”, “I believe someone is after my future” and all those negative words and then you wonder why bad things are happening to you? Remember, God has not withheld the power of choice from us and hence what we do with this power either destroys or builds us.
Instead of thinking of and professing all the bad reasons in the world when ill things happen to you, why not confess the positive success you desire to be the outcome of that situation.
CONFESSION:
“I believe God’s plan for me are of GOOD and not evil therefore my thoughts and words will be of good and great things.”
“I believe that God created me in his image and His image is perfect, so I am made perfect in my body and life.”
“I believe that every GOOD and PERFECT gift comes from God so all I have and will have are good and perfect.”
“I believe God’s promise of ‘none shall be barren in the land’, therefore as I remain in this land of the living, I am fruitful.”
“God promised me the Head of everything and not the tail. The head is up and moves forward so I remain above and make progress in life.”
Make a list of them as they are so many, stick it on your wall and read it to yourself everyday. Do not accept the evil report of anyone concerning you. If God thinks highly of you, don’t ever not even for a second think low of yourself. See yourself in the mirror of your maker.
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:” ~ Proverbs 23:7a
“Be careful who you believe and how you believe who you believe. What and Who you believe influences your life powerfully” ~ Phebe Olaniran
I see you breaking forth with testimonies, do not hinder yourself from enjoying them.
God bless you and Mrs O loves you big. (Watch-out for Part II)
Before now, I always admired mothers who could go the extra mile to breastfeed their babies exclusively. I told myself I was going to be one of those mothers but along the line I started to doubt my desire to breastfeed my babies exclusively and made up my mind not to. You may ask me why and my dear reader, this article won’t be sufficient to tell you as I have a lot to tell you why.
What I heard and read about breastfeeding suddenly turned me off my one time dream. “Its painful” some said, “your breast could get sore and be infected in the process” another wrote and I read. So many other things (the internet if full of them) that it became so easy for me to make up my mind without thinking twice.
Weeks before my little one arrived, a few number of people who loved me so much started encouraging me to breastfeed, listing all the great benefits of it. I started to doubt my decision not to breastfeed again. Instead of going round and round in circles about what i want to do or not do, I discussed with my boyfriend (my husband – but i prefer to address him so) and we prayed about it telling God to make the best happen naturally. When the day came and my little one arrived this world, the moment my baby was brought to the breast, – (the lactation consultant guiding Bambie to my breast and guiding my hand to hold in the best position) – Bambie latched on perfectly and began sucking wowing both the consultant and the nurses who were present in the room. Immediately, I knew that we were in this for the long haul.
You may ask, didn’t it hurt? oh yes it did. I was sore but I was prepared too. I had my lanolin cream with me which I was going to apply. After each feed, I soothed with the lanolin cream and when it was time for the next feed, it’ll hurt again but as we kept at it and I kept applying the cream, everything got better and we became very well adjusted in no time and that’s how the journey to exclusive breastfeeding began.
Before I continue, let me state that this article is in no way written to spite those who didn’t breastfeed exclusively or did it for a short while. It is to encourage new mums, new working mums who want to breastfeed. It is aimed at giving them tips from a personal point of view on how to cope and to also debunk some fearful ideas attributed towards breastfeeding. I know many who genuinely want to but can’t for one reason or the other including medical reasons. Some the baby wont just latch on and all other reasons. If you want to, why not? If you can, why not?

Aside the bonding that exist in breastfeeding, I have used it as a medium of spending time to pray, declare and prophesy into the life of my little one. And I do this even when Bambie is taking the breast-milk from the bottle. If you aren’t breastfeeding, when you are feeding with either the later or formula, I encourage you to use that time to pray for your little one. Don’t just raise your leg and watch TV or read a book. Don’t always give the nanny or babysitter or grandma. Sometimes do it yourself for this sole reason. Tell me, what is better than praying for your child? Well for me NOTHING!!! And nothing compares to it either.
Stay tuned as I will be sharing personal tips of what I did and How I did what to have my baby go exclusively on breast-milk without water. I will also be sharing recipes I used and is using to encourage the flow to meet up with the demand of the growing baby even though I work and I am stressed most times.
If you have any contribution or question, do well to leave your comments below and I will respond to it. Until you read from me again on this topic, remain in the love of God.

Sequel to my post When it’s not what you call it, I would be sharing the evils that low self esteem does to its victim and how to overcome and be confident from personal experiences.
After I got into school and felt out of place for the first few weeks, I cannot tell you in particular what changed but one thing I remember was waking up one day and determine not to be invisible anymore. I suddenly became so aware of what this garment was about to do. It was about to cover me up and make me so invisible and quiet. I began to love myself, became happy with myself and the level I was at. I was proud of myself for beating all odds to be far above my age mates and be way ahead of them. Many a times, finding self-worth is taking the first step which is love and not just any love but love for who you are, what you have, where you are and what you will become when you get to where you are going doing what you are meant to do.
Before we go far, let’s just take a quick look at the evils of low self esteem;
It first attacks your identity
Then tell you convincing lies that you easily believe
Next it steals your joy and always make you feel you are not good enough
It then pushes deep down into you and make you either quiet or outspoken
When you are quiet, people hardly know what you are dealing with and you can quietly recover
When you become outspoken, it’s majorly to get approval from people and make yourself look good.
When trying to look good, you begin to see problem with people who are better than you
You begin to say uncool things about them or what they do to feel good about who you are or where you are
And this type is easily noticed by onlookers, readers and those around you
And most times people in this category despise help.
I was on the quiet side so I overcome it by Gods help before people even knew. All they knew was that I was reserved. Back to my story, after Secondary school, I got into University immediately and being a much bigger crowd and different kinds of people, I almost crept back into my shell. I had to daily tell myself that I can do it and that was how I gradually took a day at a time and improved. There was this day, some of my class mates and I were in the Architecture studio designing and someone took over my drawing table and moved my things aside. Normally, I would have just picked my stuff and go back to the hostel as no where for me to work. But this day I didn’t, I challenged him on why he did what he did. And I made him understand what he did was so wrong and I wanted my table back. He didn’t like the fact that I stood up to him and the next thing he said was how dare me talk to him as I was not his mate and his younger sister was older than me. It was as though he awoke the giant in me as I stood there not knowing where the boldness came from and I told him how proud I was to be his mate despite being younger than his sister age wise. He felt so terrible and everyone who was watching challenged him for wanting to oppress me. I got my table back and got to my work and for the first time, I felt peace. All I could mumble was “Thank you Lord.”
Credit : GoogleThis took me to the story of David and Goliath and from then on, whenever I found myself been down, I always remember calling myself David. David didn’t bury or hide his face when Goliath challenged him, he stood for Isreal with God on his side and he overcame the enemy of the Isrealites.
Steps to Self awareness and Self worth
Love yourself for how and who God created you to be.
Ask yourself what it is that makes you feel not good enough
Who said you aren’t good enough (many a-times, we are the one telling ourselves this)
What can you do to better yourself. (Academically, morally, spiritually and so on)
Write them down and be positive.
Read them to you in front of a mirror.
Be vulnerable to learn from people who are better than you (younger or older)
Watch you become a better confident you.
Now in the professional world when I meet a lot of Goliaths, like David- I am with God’s help, bold and confident of who God has made me. For my stature, yes I am still short but my height is a blessing from my maker because anytime people see me, they first look down on me but when I begin to do what I am called to do professionally or locally, I enjoy the “wow look” on their faces. I encourage you to Love yourself for who you are and how you are. Aim at working to be a better version of you. Don’t let your present weaknesses bury you or cause you to be invisible. Be vulnerable sometimes to seek help and be helped.
“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” ~ Lucille Ball
“If only you could sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.” ~ Fred Rogers
“Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness and self-worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can’t love and respect yourself – no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are – completely; the good and the bad – and make changes as YOU see fit – not because you think someone else wants you to be different.” ~ Stacey Charter
